About InvestingIR

Education first. Decisions yours.

InvestingIR offers one-on-one financial education. The aim is to help you understand how markets, asset classes and strategies work, what they cost, and where the risks sit, so that you can reach your own conclusions with more clarity.

01

Independent thinking

You are encouraged to question ideas, including ours, and to form your own view.

02

Balanced analysis

Every approach has strengths and limitations. We look at both sides.

03

Transparency

Clear scope, a single published price, and plain language about what the service is and isn't.

04

Risk awareness

Uncertainty and the possibility of loss are part of every market, and part of every lesson.

What this is not. InvestingIR is not a brokerage, fund, advisory firm or signal service. Sessions explain concepts and options; they do not tell you what to buy or sell.

Line-art bull head, representing rising markets

Bull market

Prices broadly rising, optimism, expanding valuations.

Line-art bear head, representing falling markets

Bear market

Prices broadly falling, caution, contracting valuations.

Markets move in both directions. Understanding both is the point.

What You'll Learn

A balanced view of how markets work.

Choose the areas that interest you. No asset class or strategy is presented as best for everyone: each comes with trade-offs, costs and risks that we examine openly.

Asset classes

Characteristics & risks

Benefits, limitations, risks and typical use cases, with attention to volatility, liquidity, leverage, fees, inflation, counterparty risk, diversification and time horizon.

Stocks & equities

Ownership stakes in companies. How valuation, earnings, dividends and concentration shape outcomes, and why shares can fall as well as rise.

Volatility · Concentration · Valuation

ETFs & index funds

Pooled vehicles that track a market or index. Passive investing, fees, tracking differences, and what diversification does and doesn't protect against.

Fees · Diversification · Tracking

Government & corporate bonds

Debt instruments and their income. How interest rates, inflation, credit quality and duration affect prices and returns.

Rate risk · Credit risk · Inflation

Cryptocurrency

Bitcoin, Ethereum and other digital assets. Extreme volatility, custody, counterparty and regulatory risk, alongside how the technology and markets work.

Volatility · Custody · Regulation

Precious metals

Gold and silver as stores of value and industrial inputs. What influences prices, the absence of income, storage and the ways to gain exposure.

No yield · Storage · Inflation

Cash & equivalents

Savings, short-term bills and money-market instruments. Liquidity and stability, weighed against inflation and opportunity cost.

Liquidity · Inflation · Opportunity cost

Derivatives

Futures, options and CFDs. How leverage, margin and time decay work, and why these instruments can magnify losses and are unsuitable for many people.

Leverage · Margin · Counterparty

Other instruments

Commodities, real-estate exposure, structured products and more, explored where relevant, always with costs and liquidity in view.

Fees · Liquidity · Complexity

Investing & trading approaches

Trade-offs, not verdicts

Costs, time commitment, risks and limitations of each approach. No strategy is guaranteed to work or to outperform the market.

  • 01

    Long-term buy-and-hold

Patience and low turnover versus long periods of drawdown and concentration risk.

  • 02

    Passive & index investing

Broad exposure at low cost, with no attempt to beat the market and full market risk.

  • 03

    Active investing & fundamental analysis

Researching businesses and valuations, which takes time, skill and often higher costs.

  • 04

    Technical analysis & price action

Reading charts, trends and volume, and understanding what the evidence does and doesn't support.

  • 05

    Swing & position trading

Holding for days to months: fewer decisions than day trading, but exposure to gaps and overnight risk.

  • 06

    Day & short-term trading

High frequency, high time demand, trading costs and a difficult record for most participants.

  • 07

    Trend following & momentum

Following price persistence, with whipsaws and sharp reversals as the recurring cost.

  • 08

    Value & growth investing

Two lenses on price versus potential, each of which can lag for years.

  • 09

    Dollar-cost averaging & lump-sum

Regret, timing and behaviour: how each approach compares and what history can and can't tell us.

  • 10

    Diversification & asset allocation

What spreading risk achieves, what it costs, and why correlations can change under stress.

  • 11

    Position sizing & risk management

Limiting the damage of being wrong, and understanding drawdowns and recovery maths.

  • 12

    Trading psychology & behavioural biases

Loss aversion, overconfidence, herding and how emotions undermine good intentions.

Long-term wealth & portfolio concepts

Foundations

The ideas that sit underneath every strategy. Examples used in sessions are hypothetical illustrations, not predictions or promises, and no individual portfolio or allocation is prescribed.

Compounding & time

Why time in the market matters mathematically, and why the same maths works against you through fees and losses.

Risk tolerance vs risk capacity

The difference between how much risk feels comfortable and how much a situation can actually absorb.

Diversification & allocation

How different asset classes and markets behave relative to one another, and the limits of diversification.

Inflation & purchasing power

Real versus nominal returns, and what rising prices mean for cash, bonds and other holdings.

Volatility, drawdowns & rebalancing

Why portfolios swing, how deep falls have behaved historically, and the idea behind rebalancing.

Investing, speculation & trading

Three different activities with different risks, time horizons and expectations, often confused with one another.

Financial platform & software education

Practical help getting comfortable with the tools: charting software, market data sites and trading platforms, so the interface stops being a barrier to understanding.

Your security comes first. We never ask for passwords, brokerage credentials, API secrets, private keys or crypto recovery phrases, never access your accounts, and never place trades for you.

  • Platform navigation and interface familiarisation
  • Chart layouts, indicators, timeframes and drawing tools
  • Order types and platform terminology explained
  • Finding and reading publicly available market data
  • Common platform settings and what they do
  • Educational demonstrations of charting and analysis software
  • Basic troubleshooting and software setup

FAQ

Questions, answered plainly.

Is this financial advice?

No. InvestingIR provides financial education and general information only. Sessions explain concepts, compare options and discuss risks; they are not personalized financial, investment, legal or tax advice, and nothing discussed is a recommendation to buy or sell any financial instrument. See the full disclaimer.

Who can benefit from these consultations?

Adults who want to understand investing and markets better: complete beginners, people who already invest and want a more rounded view, and those curious about trading, crypto, precious metals or how trading platforms work.

Do I need prior investing experience?

No. Sessions are adapted to your current knowledge, from first principles to more advanced topics. The introductory discussion helps set a sensible starting point for your learning.

Can we discuss crypto, precious metals, and derivatives?

Yes. These are covered educationally, including how they work, what drives them and their risks. Derivatives, leveraged products and cryptocurrencies can involve substantial risk, including the loss of more than you intended to put in, so we pay particular attention to those.

Can you explain trading platforms?

Yes. Platform and software education is part of the service: navigating interfaces, chart layouts, indicators, order types and terminology, and public market data. We will never ask for your passwords, credentials, API secrets, private keys or recovery phrases, and we never access your accounts or place trades.

Will you tell me what to buy or sell?

No. The purpose is to help you understand your options so that you can make your own informed decisions. Decisions about what to buy, sell or hold remain yours.

Are profits guaranteed?

No. Investing involves risk, including the possible loss of capital, and nothing taught or discussed guarantees any result. Examples used in sessions are hypothetical illustrations, not predictions or promises.

What happens during the first session?

The first session lasts 90 minutes in total for $100. It begins with a 30-minute introductory discussion about your perspective, knowledge, interests, previous experience and learning priorities. This is educational scoping, not a financial assessment, and the extra 30 minutes carry no additional fee. The remaining 60 minutes are financial education and discussion. Returning sessions are 60 minutes for $100.
